arColyn began playing the harp at age 9. With her father in the Navy, she moved around frequently and was able to study with several notable teachers across the United States, including Nicole Brady, Shrudeli Ownbey, Heidi Tims Hernandez, and Vonda Darr. She also spent 3 years as a harp student in Japan as a pupil of Sakae Haizuka. Carolyn holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Brigham Young University in addition to a Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degree in Harp Performance from the University of Arizona under the tutelage of Carrol McLaughlin.
    In July 2012, Carolyn was named a semi-finalist in the Ksenia Erdely International Harp Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia. She was the only participant from the U.S. and was honored to represent her country. Carolyn has had great success at national competitions as well, winning third place in the American Harp Society National Competition in 2011 and being named a winner of the Anne Adams Awards in 2008. While at the University of Arizona, Carolyn was granted a Teaching Assistant position in one of the largest harp departments in the world. She also enjoyed being a member of HarpFusion, and performed in Holland, Belgium, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Brazil as part of the ensemble.
   Currently serving as the Artistic Director of The Urban Youth Harp Ensemble, Carolyn teaches 70 students in the Atlanta Public School system. A prolific composer and arranger, Carolyn writes many of the pieces the group performs. The Urban Youth Harp Ensemble's concerts regularly attract sell-out audiences in the hundreds.
    Carolyn was elected to serve as the Second Vice President of the American Harp Society in June 2014. She has been serving as the AHS Regional Director for the Southeast for three years. She also served as President of the American Harp Society Georgia Chapter from 2011-2013. In her spare time she enjoys performing for symphonies, with recent appearances including Symphony Orchestra Augusta, The Charleston Symphony, The Savannah Philharmonic, and The Phoenix Symphony. Carolyn plays frequently for private events and also maintains a private teaching studio in Atlanta.
